Due to capacity and resource constraints, it is with a heavy heart that we must cancel the festival of the sea this year.

The festival has been a popular part of the Oban calendar for the past seven years. It was conceptualised to highlight the many ways the sea influences life here is Argyll and globally, to share the exciting research going on at SAMS and to promote better stewardship of our marine world. But since SAMS as the organiser of the Festival opened the Ocean Explorer Centre in 2014 we now have a permanent facility with the same remit and want to focus on organising more events here rather than one large annual festival.

For those who planned to come along to the festival, we will still open the Ocean Explorer Centre (entry free) on 27th and 28th May 10 am - 4 pm and have a few additional activities going on. Our neighbours at Dunstaffnage Castle will host an event ‘Traders and Norsemen’ that weekend, making a trip to Dunstaffnage still worth your while.

We hope that the many partners who have contributed events over the years will continue to work with us at the Ocean Explorer Centre: please get in touch if you have an idea for an event or just to let us know you want to be on our list of contacts for larger events (E:
